Project Description
GCCA recently
implemented a Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) mitigation
and prevention project in Zambia and Togo. This project, done in
conjunction with the LSU Agricultural Center and the U.S. Agency for
International Development (USAID), was designed to improve the
ability of associations to provide vital services to their members
in Zambia and Togo. Examples of potential vital services include,
but are not limited to, assistance in developing integrated sales
networks, industry promotions, advocacy efforts, information
dissemination and education or awareness programs.
Association-based assistance also includes promotion of regional
trade and export opportunities. The resulting impact of a
newly-developed and strengthened integrated network includes the
potential to increase the success of the region’s food industry,
thereby resulting in increased employment opportunities. Follow up
projects in both Zambia and Togo, which will implement suggestions
based upon findings during this trip, are expected to take place
during the month of February.
