Vision and Mission          IARW Goals

  1. Education

    Provide an effective education and training program for WFLO members in order to develop and strengthen the global cold chain.

    Objectives

    1. Create and improve educational programs to meet industry needs on a global basis. (Education/Standards Committee and Staff)
    2. Seek and maintain appropriate accreditation of WFLO programs. (Education/Standards Committee and Staff)
    3. Utilize new technologies in the delivery of educational programs. (Technology and Education/Standards Committees and Staff)
    4. Consistently update resource materials utilizing all relevant sources. (Staff and Committees)
       
  2. Research, Food Science, and Recommended Practices

    Through research, establish and maintain recommended practices for the handling of controlled-temperature products.

    Objectives

    1. Ensure that major emphasis is placed on retention of food quality through proper handling, security, safety, and a full understanding of inspection, certification, and logistics.
    2. Provide scientific expertise to support member needs by maintaining an excellent and responsive Scientific Advisory Council. (Board and SAC)
    3. Encourage all WFLO members to service their customer base using appropriate WFLO resources. (Staff)
    4. Encourage and support research for the development of recommended practices and industry advancement. (Board and Committees)
    5. Maintain the Commodity Storage Manual as the primary reference for the proper storage and handling of perishable products. (Staff and SAC)
    6. Cooperate with other organizations in the development of recommended practices for refrigerated and frozen products. (Board, SAC, and Staff)
    7. Address legislative and regulatory issues through science. (Staff and SAC)
    8. Maintain quality, relevance, and timeliness in research, information and education. (Board, Committees, Staff, and SAC)
       
  3. Cold Chain Development

    Utilize WFLO members and resources to develop and strengthen the global cold chain.

    Objectives

    1. Identify and secure funding to support expanding the cold chain and IARW-WFLO membership. (Staff and Board)
    2. Develop and support international offices, representatives and relationships which further these goals. (Board and Staff)
    3. Involve WFLO members, scientists, and others in fulfilling WFLO’s role in building the global cold chain. (Staff, Board, and SAC)
    4. Increase recognition of WFLO and its successes among members, industry, and governments. (Board, Staff, and SAC)
       
  4. Organizational Performance and Leadership

    Assure that WFLO continues as a well-managed and financially healthy organization for the benefit of its membership and the cold chain industry.

    Objectives

    1. Maintain a strong governance structure characterized by leaders who are well respected and who represent the international nature of the organization. (Board and Staff)
    2. Maintain one year’s total operating expenses (minus government-funded projects) in reserve and responsibly invested. (Board and Investment Committee)
    3. Broaden the funding base through the endowments, gifts and other contributions. (Board and Staff)
    4. Maximize economies and efficiencies through combined WFLO and IARW management and staffing. (Board)
    5. Regularly examine and update the strategic plan and assure alignment of resources necessary to carry it out. (Board and Staff)
