Welcome to the Desert

Morgan has lived in the desert for 25 years and presently resides in Indio on a date ranch. Arguably, no one knows the Palm Springs valley better! When she's not busy leading jeep tours, Morgan works with numerous environmental groups to protect our cultural and natural resources. Find the answers to the most commonly asked questions: What is a desert? How do plants and animals survive here? Where does all of the water come from? Where is the San Andreas Fault? What causes earthquakes? Morgan will amaze you with her knowledge of the many aspects and nuances of our desert including its history, geology, culture, ethno-botany, animal life, and much more!

Tram and Shop Tour
When: Tuesday, 31 March, 2009 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM

The Palm Springs Aerial Tram on Mt. Jacinto is a true adventure. It was the dream of a young electrical engineer named Francis F. Crocker to "go up there where it's nice and cool." Construction of the Tramway was an engineering challenge and was soon labeled the "eighth wonder of the world'' because of the ingenious use of helicopters in erecting four of the five supporting towers. Some 20 years later, the Tramway was designated an historical civil engineering landmark. The rotating cable cars are the most advanced in the world and guide passengers 2 1/2 miles up the mountainside to a height of 8,516 feet. After the Tram, you will go into Palm Springs to sample its shopping delights. Lunch is on your own.
